Yousaf: Sturgeon ‘Quite a Broken Woman’ Discussing Murrell Confession
Yousaf said he believes Sturgeon was unaware of Murrell’s embezzlement and described the BBC interview as evidence of the toll from the scandal.
Former First Minister Humza Yousaf said Nicola Sturgeon looked like a "broken woman" during her recent BBC interview discussing her ex-husband Peter Murrell's embezzlement of more than £400,000 from the SNP.
Peter Murrell pleaded guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh to embezzling SNP funds between 2010 and 2022, purchasing luxury items including coffee machines and grinders worth more than £2,600.
Sturgeon stated she feels like she is "serving a sentence for a crime I did not commit," noting her ex-husband never explained why he took party funds during the BBC interview.
Yousaf told BBC Newsnight he was "utterly gobsmacked" and "livid" when police raided SNP headquarters in Edinburgh in 2023, shortly after he succeeded Sturgeon as party leader.
While acknowledging public skepticism about Sturgeon's knowledge of the 12-year crime spree, Yousaf described his predecessor as a "person of great integrity" and said he believes her.
