Woolworths Group FY26 earnings: Sales, profit and dividend all grow
Woolworths said a value push, 18% profit growth and a return to profit at Big W helped lift earnings ahead of rival Coles.
On Wednesday, Woolworths Group reported an 18% profit surge to $1.138 billion for the 2026 financial year, with sales growth outpacing rival Coles Group during the period.
A return to profitability for Big W with $64 million in earnings, combined with the "Big Price Drops" campaign and Disney Ooshies collectables, drove the company's strong results.
Australian food sales at Woolworths increased 4.6% to $53.9 billion, while Coles reported supermarket sales rose 3.7% to $41.5 billion; eCommerce sales jumped 18% as customers shifted to same-day delivery.
CEO Amanda Bardwell told reporters shoppers have entered a "new reality of entrenched value-seeking," with the company focused on low prices to remain customers' first choice.
Sales momentum continues into the new financial year with food sales growing 7.6% over July and August, though management expects challenging economic conditions to persist as household budgets remain under pressure.
