Non-Life Threatening Injuries in Hwy97 Crash South of Vernon
RCMP said a red Kia Rio turned into the path of a Honda Fit, sending both drivers to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Friday, Oct. 2, two vehicles collided on Highway 97 at Bailey Road south of Vernon, with emergency crews arriving shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, reported that a red Kia Rio attempted to turn northbound in front of a southbound Honda Fit.
The Honda driver could not avoid the collision, striking the Kia and forcing it down an embankment near Kekuli Bay; Vernon Fire Rescue and Emergency Health Services responded to the scene.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while an air ambulance landed in the Commonage area to assist.
Traffic stopped completely in both directions when the helicopter landed, though normal flow resumed after emergency crews cleared the scene.
