Ho Chi Minh City’s $385 Million Flood Control Project Nears Completion, Residents Eager for Launch
After years of suffering from floods due to heavy rains and high tides, residents in parts of Ho Chi Minh City are eagerly anticipating the completion of a VND10-trillion (US$385 million) flood control project. The initiative is now in its final stages and is expected to begin operations in November.
Despite the unpredictable weather, the workers remain committed to the construction site, diligently working on the dike and embankment sections of the nearly 10,000 billion VND flood control project, aiming to complete the project on schedule.
It is expected that in November 2026, the project to address tidal flooding in Ho Chi Minh City, taking into account climate change factors - phase 1 (the 10,000 billion VND tidal barrier project in Ho Chi Minh City) will be put into operation as directed by the Prime Minister.
In recent days, high tides combined with continuous heavy rain have submerged many streets in Ho Chi Minh City. Amidst the hardships of wading through the water, the question "when will the 10,000 billion VND mega-project to combat flooding finally become operational?" continues to be a pressing issue.
