Thailand Warns of More Rain as Flood Death Toll Rises to 31
Authorities said more rain could trigger flash flooding as more than 3.5 million people remained affected and emergency recovery funding topped 4.1 billion baht.
On Monday, Thai authorities warned of additional heavy rain and flash flooding as the national death toll from ongoing floods rose to 31.
More than 3.5 million people remained affected by flooding nationwide as of Monday, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
Thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain are expected across upper Thailand through Wednesday, the Thailand Meteorological Department said, increasing flash flood risks in low-lying areas.
Emergency funds of more than 4.1 billion baht, or about $122 million, were approved last week by the government to support flood recovery efforts.
Bangkok authorities are draining main canals and deploying water pumps to reduce further flood risks, though floodwaters persist in some low-lying city areas.
