Suspect in fatal 2022 shooting tried to kill a second man in same Scarborough parking lot months later: police
Police say the suspect may have tried to kill another man in the same parking lot months later and ask the public to identify him.
On Friday, Toronto police will provide an update at 11 a.m. regarding the 2022 homicide of Ding Ping Wang, where investigators now believe the suspect goes by the name "Jay."
In November 2022, Wang was fatally shot inside a vehicle in a Scarborough plaza near Midland Avenue and Passmore Avenue after police responded to an "unknown trouble" call.
Investigators believe the same suspect was involved in an attempted murder on March 10, 2023, in the same parking lot, where his movements suggested he was conducting "reconnaissance."
An eyewitness helped investigators create an artist's rendering of the suspect, and police are asking anyone who recognizes "Jay" to contact Toronto police at 416-808-7400.
Authorities also believe the suspect had access to a black four-door SUV at the time, though investigators have not publicly identified his full name or confirmed a connection between the two cases.
