Heritage Railway Roof Appeal Races Past £250,000 Milestone
The charity says donations from supporters and a legacy gift pushed the appeal past a quarter of its £1 million goal.
The Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust's "Raise the Roof" appeal has surpassed £254,558 toward its £1 million target since launching in June for a Kidderminster Town station canopy project.
Designed in a Great Western Railway-style, the new canopy will provide enhanced passenger shelter while completing a vision decades in the making for the southern terminus.
Construction will utilize authentic salvaged steelwork from the former Wolverhampton Low Level Great Western Railway station, preserving historic railway infrastructure while enhancing visitor experience for generations.
Judith Meredith, chair of the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust, called the milestone a "tremendous achievement," crediting widespread public support and a significant legacy donation.
CEO Gus Dunster stated the canopy "will complete a vision that has been decades in the making," transforming Kidderminster's visitor experience as the railway's front door.
