Police investigating Ann Widdecombe murder reopen attempted burglary probe at property linked to Nigel Farage: Report
A fresh review found a missed line of inquiry in the burglary probe, prompting a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Counter-Terrorism police investigating the murder of Ann Widdecombe officially reopened a probe into an April 2025 attempted burglary and arson attack at a Greater London property linked to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
The reopened incident involves an alleged attempt to firebomb Farage’s home, where a lit incendiary device was pushed through his letterbox before burning out in the porch.
Police identified a previously overlooked line of inquiry that "may have been relevant" to both the 2025 incident and the broader murder investigation.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct launched an independent conduct investigation into a Counter Terrorism Policing London staff member over allegations they failed to properly pursue that line of inquiry in 2025.
The action follows the charging of 28-year-old Joshua Kerry with Widdecombe's murder, after the 78-year-old former Conservative minister and Reform UK figure was killed at her Devon home in July.
