Patriots Defense Heads to Buffalo without Christian Gonzalez and Christian Barmore
Mike Vrabel said the Patriots will be without two key defenders as they adjust to Buffalo’s offense, which has averaged 33.7 points through three games.
- New England Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel announced Friday that cornerback Christian Gonzalez and defensive tackle Christian Barmore are ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills due to shoulder injuries.
- Both players sustained their shoulder injuries during last Sunday's 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars; Vrabel stated the injuries were sustained during "normal football procedures" in that defeat.
- Charles Woods is expected to start for the 1-2 Patriots in place of Gonzalez, who recorded eight tackles and five passes defensed this season, while the team has 11 players on their injury report released Thursday.
- The Patriots' defense faces a formidable challenge against quarterback Josh Allen and a Bills offense that leads the league, averaging 33.7 points per game while ranking fourth in rushing with 155 yards per game.
- Quarterback Drake Maye was listed on the injury report with a shoulder issue but participated fully in practice Thursday, and Vrabel confirmed there were no limitations regarding his ability to play Sunday.
