UK Supreme court says Palestine Action co-founder can challenge ban on group
Huda Ammori can challenge the ban after 77 people were arrested outside Westminster Magistrates' Court and more than 2,000 related cases were adjourned.
- On Thursday, the Supreme Court granted Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori permission to challenge the group's ban, with an expedited hearing expected between October and December.
- In June, the Court of Appeal ruled the ban was a "justified and proportionate" interference, overturning a February High Court decision that declared then-Home Secretary Yvette Cooper's proscription unlawful.
- Police arrested 77 people outside Westminster Magistrates on Thursday for expressing support for the group, while more than 2,000 cases were adjourned until October 26 to await the Supreme Court appeal outcome.
- Defendants from Edinburgh and Chichester reported "chaos" after arriving for hearings adjourned without notice, and the courts service now faces compensation bills running to thousands of pounds.
- Tim Crosland, co-founder of Defend Our Juries, criticized the court's communication as "chaos," highlighting how more than 2,000 adjourned cases expose systemic strain in managing the group's proscription proceedings.
