OneBC says former Conservative leader Findlay and husband Chapman were threatened
OneBC said the strains of recent months were enormous as Chapman stepped back after his name missed Elections BC’s final candidate list.
On Tuesday, political party OneBC stated that former Conservative legislator Brent Chapman and his wife, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, were subjected to a "torrent of threats and abuse from insiders." Chapman will not run in Surrey South after a mutual decision to step back.
Findlay resigned as Conservative leader less than four months after winning the party leadership, amid a caucus revolt. OneBC claims "strong conservative values" are not acceptable to current leaders of the Conservative Party of British Columbia.
Emerging as a splinter group from the Conservatives, OneBC lacks official status because Chapman failed to inform the Speaker in time. Interim leader Dallas Brodie is running to retain her own riding.
OneBC expressed gratitude for Chapman's "principled stance," noting that "strains of the last few months have been enormous." The party stated "politics is important, but so is family and security."
Chapman had initially planned to join OneBC for the October 24 election, but withdrew following Findlay's resignation and the snap election called by NDP Leader David Eby. The timing underscores the party's internal turmoil.
