NDP Announces Seniors' Health Care Plan at Victoria Stop
The plan adds 500 home-care workers, brings 5,000 care-home staff into the public system, and aims to help 5,600 seniors stay at home longer.
On Monday, David Eby unveiled a seniors' health care plan at the Victoria Curling Club, pledging free shingles vaccines and expanded home care support to help British Columbians live independently longer.
The plan resumes seven long-term care projects paused in February, utilizing a new standardized model to lower per-bed costs, with Oak Bay Lodge as the first facility.
Eby committed to hiring 500 health-care workers and returning 5,000 care-home staff to the public system, measures designed to help roughly 5,600 more seniors remain safely in their homes.
While Eby claimed the NDP plan protects seniors, he criticized The Conservatives, alleging their policies would force health care to "take the brunt" of budget cuts.
This announcement follows an Oct 4 pledge to increase taxes on the top four per cent of earners to fund health care and education, supporting broader efforts to reduce hospital pressure.
