NASA-Linked Circadian Science Helped Over 96% Of Travelers Avoid Severe Jet Lag
Jet lag occurs when a person's internal clock is out of sync with their environment, and the brain's central clock acts as a 'conductor of the orchestra' regulating daily rhythms as described by Dr. Steven Lockley.
Following recommended circadian science guidelines, 96.4% of travelers avoided severe or very severe jet lag.
Light and melatonin treatments are effective only if timed correctly according to the internal clock.
Astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria noted that astronauts adjust their internal clocks through precise plans involving naps, light exposure, and caffeine for launch readiness, and cautioned that eating at the wrong biological time can disrupt stomach and liver rhythms.
