Ohio Man Indicted on Federal Charges in Disappearance and Death of 17-Year-Old Girl From Indiana

- Investigators allege Thomas met Buzbee through online gaming and drove her from Indiana to a Logan, Ohio, Airbnb with the "intent to engage in prohibited sexual activity with the victim," prosecutors said.
- Prosecutors claim Thomas obstructed the investigation by dismembering Buzbee and burying her remains near a North Country Trail trailhead, while FBI agents discovered potential blood traces inside the rental property.
- Gerace noted the most serious charges are punishable by death, while defense attorney Samuel Shamansky did not immediately return a request for comment; the federal case remains pending.
- Law enforcement partners spent eight months investigating the case, and officials urge the public to report exploitation of young people by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
