Federal inspectors said no illnesses have been reported, and the recalled products were shipped to Illinois, Iowa and Michigan before nationwide distribution.
Chicago-Based City Foods Inc is recalling 3,215 pounds of ready-to-eat corned beef and pastrami after federal inspectors flagged possible Listeria contamination, triggering a Class I recall.
The recalled products were produced on July 16 and have a 60-day shelf life, officials say. Each bears establishment number "EST. 1896" inside the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service mark.
Affected inventory includes "BEA'S BEST COOKED CORNED BEEF BRISKET" , "KIRSCH DELICATESSEN STYLE COOKED CORNED BEEF BRISKET" , and "Midamar Premium Beef Pastrami" .
While shipped to Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan before nationwide distribution, no illnesses have been associated with the products, officials report. The USDA issued the recall strictly as a precaution.
Listeria infection primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
