Kidjo, a five-time Grammy winner, will receive the honor in the Recording category as the first Black African artist to get a Walk of Fame star.
On Tuesday, Beninese music icon Angelique Kidjo became the first African musician to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony at 7011 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame features over 2,800 terrazzo-and-brass stars embedded in sidewalks honoring major entertainment figures. Kidjo, a five-time Grammy winner, built her international career spanning music, culture, and humanitarian advocacy.
Selling nearly four million albums worldwide, Kidjo won five Grammys and wrote the bestselling autobiography "Spirit Rising." Her milestones include 1996's "Fifa," where she first sang in English, and 2007's "Djin Djin."
Actor Willem Dafoe and music executive Harvey Mason Jr. served as guest speakers for the ceremony. The recognition adds to Kidjo's international accolades, highlighting the growing global profile of African music.
Discussing her tour through 2027, Kidjo said she is focused on "the stretching of my own physical boundaries." She continues promoting African culture and social causes through her 2026 album, "Hope.
