- On Tuesday, Beninese singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo unveiled the 2,854th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7011 Hollywood Boulevard, across from the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.
- Kidjo's recognition marks a historic milestone as the first Black African artist and first African musician to receive a star, honoring her four-decade career bridging traditional West African sounds with global genres including funk, jazz, and pop.
- During the ceremony, actor Willem Dafoe praised Kidjo's energy, saying, "The first time I saw Angélique perform live, I thought her music, her dancing, her commitment were incredible." Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. called her a "rare artist."
- Beyond music, Kidjo has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2002 and founded the Batonga Foundation in 2006 to support education and economic empowerment for girls and young women in Africa.
- Born in Benin and based in Paris since 1983, the five-time Grammy Award winner has released 18 albums, winning Grammys for "Djin Djin," "Eve," "Sings," "Celia," and "Mother Nature" across her expansive international career.
