Moscow Hit by 'Largest-Scale Attack' on Capital so Far, Mayor Says
Ukraine said the refinery processes more than 11.6 million metric tons of crude oil a year and supplies up to 40% of Moscow's fuel needs.
- On Sunday, Sept. 20, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces conducted major long-range strikes overnight targeting key oil refining and logistics facilities in the Moscow region.
- Inside the Kapotnya district, strikes hit the Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery, damaging the AVT-6 primary crude processing unit and sparking a large fire roughly 15 kilometers from the Kremlin.
- The facility processes more than 11.6 million metric tons of crude oil annually, supplying roughly 35 percent of Moscow's fuel needs and up to 70 percent of gasoline and aviation kerosene for the wider region.
- Russian air defense units intercepted over 1,600 drones, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin claimed, while Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported at least two deaths and six injuries in the province.
- Zelensky thanked the Security Service and other intelligence agencies for executing the joint operation, while urging Russia to end its war and choose peace by prioritizing energy and food security.

More successes are noted by Ukraine during Operation Vivaldi north of Lyman and two villages and another approximately 32 km2 have been liberated by Ukraine. Ukraine bombed a large refinery in Moscow and logistics center.
