United Adds 10 New Cities in Airline's Largest International Expansion
United will launch flights to 10 new international destinations, with eight served by no other U.S. airline and five routes on Airbus A321XLRs.
- On Tuesday, United Airlines announced its largest international expansion in history, adding 10 new destinations across Europe and Asia starting in 2027 to extend its 160 international destinations.
- Delivery of new long-haul aircraft, specifically Airbus A321XLRs, drove the expansion, with CEO Scott Kirby noting that aircraft manufacturers have finally caught up to enable new markets.
- Newark Liberty International Airport will host eight of the new routes, enabled by recent Federal Aviation Administration slot changes that Kirby said improved airport reliability.
- Starting in March 2027, United will become the only U.S. airline serving nonstop to Okinawa, Japan and Terceira, Portugal, with additional routes launching through June.
