United Unveils 10 New Destinations in Major Global Expansion
United said the expansion includes 10 new cities and three routes, with the A321XLR set to serve five of the new destinations.
- On Tuesday, United Airlines announced its largest international expansion in company history, adding 10 new cities across Europe and Asia for 2027, and debuted the 'Born to Explore' Airbus A321XLR aircraft.
- Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances at United, said customers increasingly seek to avoid "overcrowded, large European cities" by visiting new destinations, positioning the carrier as a "one-stop shop."
- The new A321XLR features 20 lie-flat Polaris business-class suites, 12 premium economy seats, and 118 economy seats, with United expecting to be the only major U.S. airline offering a guaranteed empty middle seat in Economy Plus.
- Newark Liberty International Airport gains eight of the new destinations, including Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Ibiza, Spain, while Washington Dulles International Airport will launch the A321XLR on international service to Amsterdam and Dublin starting December 1.
- United is also adding routes from Denver to Paris, Los Angeles to Osaka, and Washington to Milan; all new services remain subject to government approval, with tickets for the first international flights on sale on Thursday.
