Woman arrested after 6-year-old jumps out apartment window, tests positive for cocaine
Authorities say the child tested positive for cocaine after the fall, and police found drug paraphernalia and white powder in the apartment.
Stevie Thibodeaux was arrested in Fairmont, West Virginia, after a 6-year-old child jumped from a second-story apartment window and tested positive for cocaine at a hospital.
Police responded to the apartment complex on Aug. 10 after receiving a report that the 6-year-old child jumped out of a window with a missing screen.
Officers searched the apartment and discovered a white plate, food stamp card, drug ingestion device, and white powder, according to the Marion County Sheriff.
Authorities charged Thibodeaux with child neglect creating risk of serious injury or death; she is being held in a local jail pending further proceedings.
Thibodeaux told officers she was asleep during the incident and claimed she had installed childproof locks, though she admitted to using cocaine and leaving the plate in her closet.
