Gang enforcement officers seize guns, drugs cash amid B.C. wildfire response
Officers seized 2.5 kilograms of drugs, four firearms and about $100,000 in cash while assisting wildfire evacuations, police said.
- While assisting with evacuations during the Bald Range wildfire, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit seized approximately 2.5 kilograms of illicit drugs, four firearms, and 16 weapons in Penticton.
- Officers originally arrived in Penticton and Oliver between August 5 and 9 to conduct proactive enforcement for the Peach Festival, but shifted focus when the wildfire escalated.
- Working with the Penticton RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, the team recovered approximately 2.5 kilograms of illicit drugs including fentanyl and cocaine, plus approximately $100,000 in Canadian currency and one vehicle.
- Beyond enforcement efforts, officers provided critical evacuation support, assisting elderly residents in safely exiting an independent living facility as the fire threatened Summerland and surrounding areas.
- On August 7, as the Bald Range wildfire escalated and threatened Summerland, the unit pivoted from festival duties to emergency response, enabling officers to support local policing and evacuation efforts.
