U.S. Marshals Service arrests Kent man for Alabama robbery
The suspects were arrested without incident and are awaiting extradition to Alabama after allegedly posing as law enforcement and stealing valuables at gunpoint.
On September 28, the U.S. Marshals Service arrested 41-year-old Zealand Adams in Kent, Washington, and Ramiro Vasquez in Chico, California, for an alleged September 3 home invasion robbery in Alabama.
Auburn Police Department investigators used automated license plate readers to identify the suspects' rental vehicle and track their movement out of Alabama after they allegedly posed as law enforcement and held victims at gunpoint.
Adams has a prior criminal record, including a 2014 incident in Utah where he held a 2-year-old hostage during a standoff and subsequent convictions for manslaughter in Louisiana.
As of September 30, Adams remains held at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent with bail set at $250,000, while both men await extradition to Alabama.
Acting U.S. Marshal Donrien Stephens for the Western District of Washington stated that "impersonating law enforcement undermines public trust and threatens community safety," following the coordinated multi-state arrest operation.
