Russian drone smashes into Kyiv school, no injuries, officials say
- On Thursday, a Russian drone struck a school in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district, sparking a fire while children sheltered inside during an air raid alert, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported.
- This attack followed hours of Russian strikes on Wednesday involving ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, part of a broader September surge where Russia launched 3,177 unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukraine.
- Earlier overnight, strikes caused fires in a 16-story residential building in Solomianskyi and a warehouse in Obolonskyi; the State Emergency Service reported firefighters extinguished a blaze covering 861 square feet.
- Emergency crews were dispatched to the school and other sites to extinguish flames and assess damage, with officials confirming at least one man injured during the overnight attacks received medical treatment.
- President Volodymyr Zelenky called the strikes a "new escalation of terror," noting air raid alerts lasted almost the entire day as Ukraine works with international partners to strengthen air defenses.
