Donald Trump to Present Space Medal of Honor to Artemis II Crew at Johnson Space Center in Houston
The crew becomes the first humans to circle the moon in more than 50 years after a 10-day mission, NASA said.
- On Friday, Aug. 28, President Donald Trump will award the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the Artemis II crew at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
- The crew completed a 10-day mission around the Moon on April 10, marking the first time humans traveled beyond the Moon in more than 50 years while setting a new distance record.
- Authorized by Congress, the medal recognizes astronauts who have "distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious efforts and contributions to the welfare of the Nation and of mankind." Only 30 astronauts have received this honor.
- NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman will join President Trump and the astronauts during the ceremony at 11 a.m. EDT, which will be livestreamed on the agency's website.
- Trump is also expected to attend a Republican National Committee fundraiser in Houston the night before, supporting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's Senate campaign.
