The Ukrainian parliament on Thursday adopted a declaration recognizing the Soviet repression of Transcarpathian Hungarians as a crime with 261 votes in favor. The document was initiated by Sándor Fegyir, Ukraine's ambassador to Budapest.
The Ukrainian parliament has passed a law condemning the violations committed by the Soviet military administration in Transcarpathia between 1944 and 1946. Kiev is not taking responsibility for this itself, but has now included the responsibility of the Soviet authorities in the law, which at the same time documents the grievances of the Hungarian community there.
