Natural Gas Prices Down as Solar Power Generation Jumps 22%
Solar generation rose 22% as record summer electricity demand was met while Henry Hub gas averaged $2.93 per million British thermal units, the Energy Department said.
- U.S. solar power generation rose 22% this summer, meeting record-high electricity demand as Henry Hub natural gas prices remained under $3 per million Btu, Energy Department data shows.
- Increased renewable electricity generation, record natural gas production, and ample inventories helped limit upward pressure on prices, the Energy Department said in an analysis published last week.
- Total solar generation increased by an estimated 19.4 billion kilowatt-hours in June-August, while wind generation rose 9.3 billion kilowatt-hours and natural gas power grew 7.5 billion kilowatt-hours.
- Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated the United States is "solidifying its position as the world's largest LNG supplier," with exports on track to surpass 120 million tons this year.
