Temu has largely shut down a network of fake influencers on Meta. Research by the Czech Online Risk Labs (ORL), owned by Fortune, revealed that Temu spent nearly one billion dollars promoting posts from fake accounts. The Chinese online retail platform intervened after Fortune reported on the matter in late August and terminated a large portion of the partnerships.
Temu's collaboration announcements in Meta fell almost in half after an investigation pointed out that much of the company's most promotional accounts seemed false.The analysis attributed millions of ads to that network and an accumulated range of nearly 17 billion views.
Temu has cut its advertising network on Meta platforms, which used influencer content and had spent nearly $1 billion. The investigation raised suspicions of fake profiles in 73 out of the top 100 accounts. This move has sparked debate about the advertising model.
