Stunning Photos Shows Solar Eclipse over Castle Howard in North Yorkshire
Observers across Yorkshire watched a crescent-shaped sun as the moon covered about 90% of it at the eclipse’s peak, officials said.
On August 12, stargazers across Yorkshire gathered to witness the deepest partial Solar eclipse since 1999, which began shortly after 6pm and peaked just after 7pm.
In Durham, about 90 per cent of the Sun was obscured by the moon at the spectacle's peak around 7.07pm. While partial in Yorkshire, the eclipse was total in Spain, Iceland, and Portugal.
Photographer Lisa Chambers said people were "drawn to tears" witnessing something "you've never seen before in your life." Sean Doyle captured stunning photos from Castle Hill showing the crescent shaped Sun.
Space expert Dhara Patel from the National Space Centre noted the occasion could be emotional for observers. The eclipse captured the imagination of many people across Yorkshire, who shared photographs of the spectacle.
A Perseid meteor shower is expected to begin later this evening, peaking between 1.00 am and 5.30 am. Yorkshire Live offers latest event news and regional guides for celestial viewing opportunities.
