Sikh activists in B.C., Ontario warned by police of threat against life
Police say credible intelligence shows imminent threats against two Sikh activists, and one organizer says he has received six official warnings.
- On Friday, August 14, the RCMP issued 'duty to warn' letters to Canadian Sikh activists Inderjeet Singh Gosal of Caledon, Ontario, and Manjinder Singh of Abbotsford, British Columbia, notifying them of credible, imminent threats to their lives.
- The activists are campaigning for a non-binding referendum on an independent Sikh state known as Khalistan, a movement previously led by Hardeep Singh Nijjar until his assassination in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023.
- Gosal, the Canadian coordinator for the referendum, told CBC News he declined police witness protection, stating, "I would rather take India's bullet than stop campaigning for the Khalistan referendum."
