Emergency Crews Attend Cultus Lake for Another Possible Drowning
RCMP said the man was found after a search by paramedics, firefighters and a dive team, and CPR did not save him.
- Chilliwack RCMP confirmed a man died after drowning at Cultus Lake's Entrance Bay on Thursday, August 20, while he was on an inflatable boat prior to going missing.
- Emergency responders received a call around 1:12 p.m. for a missing person in the waters near Entrance Bay; initial confusion arose when reports suggested he was out of the water, but about 15 minutes later it was confirmed he remained in the water.
- Paramedics, RCMP, and firefighters arrived on scene with a dive team entering the lake; CPR was administered after the man was recovered at approximately 2:40 p.m., but he did not survive.
- The investigation has been transferred to the BC Coroners Service. Cpl. Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, thanked the Cultus Lake Fire Department and Chilliwack Search and Rescue for their assistance.
- This marks the second fatal drowning at Entrance Bay in less than two weeks, following a 13-year-old's death on August 8. Officials warn that Cultus Lake presents unique hazards including steep underwater drop-offs and cold water temperatures.
