MNP Row: Trai to Examine Telcos' Concerns Against Vodafone Idea

- On Monday, TRAI Chairman AK Lahoti confirmed the regulator will examine complaints from Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio regarding alleged unfair customer acquisition practices by Vodafone Idea.
- Airtel and Jio allege VIL uses misleading calls, restricts Unique Porting Code SMSes, and offers prohibited tariff benefits to customers switching via Mobile Number Portability .
- Vodafone Idea rejected the accusations, asserting it conducts business in full compliance with the law while pursuing Rs 45,000 crore in capital expenditure through FY29.
- Although Lahoti declined to specify if all operators will be called for discussions, he emphasized that TRAI is obligated to investigate whenever issues are brought to its notice.
- These complaints arise as Vodafone Idea works to regain market share, recently upgrading its network to 5G and launching campaigns featuring actor Shah Rukh Khan.
