Sensex Drops 330 Points, Nifty Down to 23,329 Dragged by IT Stocks
The 50-share Nifty fell 85.30 points as broad selling in IT, financials and capital goods offset support from weaker crude and firmer global markets.
On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended lower, with the Sensex falling 0.44 per cent to 74,529.08 and the Nifty declining 0.36 per cent to 23,329.
Markets reversed early gains as weakness in IT and financial stocks offset positive trends in global markets, including rising indices in South Korea and Hong Kong, alongside easing Brent crude oil prices declining 1.67%.
"Markets reversed their early gains on Tuesday and ended lower amid heightened volatility," said Ajit Mishra, SVP. Ponmudi R., CEO of Enrich Money, added that broad-based selling across financial and consumer goods kept benchmarks pressured.
While Nifty Realty gained 0.90 per cent, broader indices traded mixed, with the BSE MidCap Select Index shedding 0.27 per cent and major laggards including Bajaj Finserv and Tata Consultancy Services.
Foreign Institutional Investors offloaded equities worth ₹576.20 crore on Monday, September 21, 2026, contrasting with the previous session when the Sensex had jumped 0.76 per cent.
