Rescue Crews Search Okanagan Lake for Missing Paddler
Search crews are using boats and drones after strong winds knocked one paddleboarder into the lake and a second person was rescued.
- Central Okanagan Search and Vernon Search crews are searching for a missing individual on Okanagan Lake on Wednesday, continuing an effort that began Tuesday evening near Carr Landing in Lake Country.
- Two individuals were paddleboarding from Fintry to Lake Country on Tuesday when wind intensified, knocking one person off their board; neither was wearing a personal floatation device or leash.
- Around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, BC Emergency Health Services called COSAR and VSAR to Okanagan Lake near Carr Landing. According to COSAR manager Ed Henczel, the Kelowna Fire Rescue boat rescued the woman, but the man was not located.
- Search teams returned Wednesday morning to continue the operation, building on Tuesday's efforts when both COSAR and VSAR deployed search boats and COSAR activated its drone team.
- Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have been contacted for additional information as authorities coordinate the ongoing search effort on Okanagan Lake to locate the missing paddleboarder.
