Schools, ferry routes suspended as Typhoon Saudel lashes east China
On Thursday, Typhoon Saudel made a third landfall in the city of Zhangzhou, Fujian, after the storm regained strength while moving through the South China Sea.
Extreme rainfall caused flash floods in the low-lying Zhejiang city of Wenzhou on Wednesday, trapping more than 2,500 teachers and students within a school compound, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
Authorities utilized drones to deliver food and water to those trapped, while cities including Fuding, Zhangzhou, and Quanzhou halted industrial activities and classes to mitigate risks.
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue impacting Fujian and Guangdong until Friday as the storm is forecast to move west over Guangdong province, state media said.
Beijing issued warnings regarding potential flash floods across the southeastern province of Fujian and eastern Zhejiang as Typhoon Saudel continues to lash multiple regions across the country.
