Padres Storm Back From 3-Run Deficit to Beat the Guardians 7-5, Win 6th Straight
On Friday, the San Diego Padres overcame an early three-run deficit to defeat the Cleveland Guardians 7-5, extending their winning streak to six games. Luis Campusano and Xander Bogaerts each drove in three runs.
With 16 wins in 20 games since July 24, the Padres have secured the second wild-card spot in the National League, while the Guardians have struggled with an 8-18 record since the All-Star break.
Cleveland starter Gavin Williams allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings after Nathaniel Lowe and Brayan Rocchio hit solo homers to build an early 3-0 lead, before Fernando Tatis Jr. sparked the Padres' comeback.
Campusano secured the lead for the Padres with a pair of doubles, including a bases-loaded drive in the fifth inning, while Bradgley Rodriguez retired the side in the ninth for his first major-league save.
The Guardians will turn to LHP Joey Cantillo on Saturday, who holds an 8-7 record with a 3.91 ERA, while the Padres have not yet announced a starter.
