Royal Mail to cut up to 2,500 jobs
Royal Mail announced an organizational review cutting up to 2,500 roles, designed to remove duplication and invest further in the service delivered to customers.
Letter volumes have declined by more than 70% since their peak, while postal regulator Ofcom continues investigating the company's persistent failure to meet delivery targets over the past year.
Chief Executive Alistair Cochrane said the business is undergoing a "significant transformation" to adapt to a changing market while simplifying processes and reducing costs across all areas.
The company remains committed to treating employees fairly throughout this process, working closely with trade unions to build a stronger and future-ready service.
These planned job cuts will specifically affect head office and support function roles, with the organizational review process scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
