Rivers: Fubara receives Shettima in Port Harcourt

The road is expected to cut travel losses, lower logistics costs and improve security along a corridor long affected by kidnapping and oil bunkering.

  • On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima commissioned the 33.5km Elele-Egbeda-Omoku dual carriageway in Rivers State, connecting Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Areas.
  • Governor Siminalayi Fubara prioritized the transformation of the route, which Messrs Craneburg Construction Company began in March 2024 to address deep gullies and security threats including kidnapping and oil bunkering.
  • Featuring a 99-metre bridge at Ubimini and six kilometres of drainage, the highway includes 50mm asphaltic binder and street lighting, according to Rivers Commissioner for Works Temple Nwofor.
  • Shettima described roads as "the most democratic instruments of development," while Fubara called the project "a promise kept," expressing relief that federal attendance signaled Rivers State's importance to Nigeria.
  • Completing the project demonstrates Fubara's commitment to Rivers residents and strengthens his political standing ahead of the 2027 elections, with visible infrastructure serving as a campaign asset.
