The Finance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved the opinion of the initiative to reform the Customs Law proposed by the head of the executive branch to combat the undervaluation of goods in customs. During the discussion, the legislators endorsed an addition to article 185 of the said law to punish fiscal huachicol or fuel smuggling with a fine of between 50 and 100 percent of the commercial value of the pediment. Changes were also approved to make the reform between 1 January 2027. The opinion was sent to the Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies so that it can be discussed and voted on in plenary.
One of the reserves, approved unanimously, is to establish fines of up to 100% of the commercial value of the merchandise in cases of fiscal “huachicol”.
