Pakistan PM Urges Imran Khan Supporters to End Protest March
Shehbaz Sharif said the government would resume talks if PTI ends its sit-ins and long march, warning the protests could hurt the economy.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif renewed an offer of talks to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf , stating the government is prepared to engage if the party ends its ongoing long march towards Islamabad.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is leading a PTI convoy that began its march on Sunday to demand the release of party founder Imran Khan and protest broader political grievances.
Government representatives previously held two days of talks with the opposition in the chamber of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, but those discussions collapsed when PTI demanded changes to agreed-upon terms.
Citing potential disruptions to manufacturing and exports, Shehbaz warned that continued protests could negatively affect Pakistan's economy, stating the government would "not allow this to happen."
Naqvi warned Afridi he would "be responsible" for any casualties during the march, while the government continues work on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass with a December 31 completion target.
