Postal service resumes in Clinton as Pear Lake fire holds at 160,315 hectares
Residents should expect mail backlogs and possible service interruptions as the area remains under evacuation alert and the wildfire burns out of control.
On Wednesday, August 19, the Clinton post office reopens, though the Pear Lake wildfire remains out of control at 160,315 hectares as of Tuesday, August 18.
Firefighters are conducting planned ignitions on the southern flank near Pavilion, removing unburnt fuel north of Highway 99 and west of Highway 97 to prevent the fire from crossing Pavilion Creek.
Operating from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Resiliency Centre at the Clinton Curling Club on Kellow Lane provides N95 masks, food packages, and support services to residents.
Residents should expect visible smoke and smouldering ground fires within the fire perimeter for the coming weeks, while the post office could close on short notice if conditions change.
Property owners should check the Thompson-Nicola Regional District EOC Dashboard for evacuation status, while hotspots within 100 feet of a property require immediate reporting to the Wildfire Service.
