Panthers sign forward Anthony Witzel for the 2026-27 season

The Port Moody Panthers announced today that the team has signed 2008-born forward Anthony Witzel for the 2026-27 Pacific Junior Hockey League season. Witzel spent the 2025-26 season with the Greater Vancouver Canadians U18 AAA program in the BC Elite Hockey League. Before that, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound forward played for Sharpshooter Academy U18 Prep, posting five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 28 Premier Hockey League U18 games during the 2024-25 campaign. “I’m excited to play in Port Moody because I’ve heard a lot of great things about the organization, and I’m excited for the opportunity to play junior hockey and take the next step in my development,” said Witzel. During the 2023-24 season, Witzel suited up for both the U16 Prep and U18 Prep teams at Sharpshooter Academy, combining for 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points in 34 U16 AAA games. “My goals for this season are to be a strong physical player, keep developing my hockey IQ, and do whatever I can to help the team succeed,” noted Witzel. Before joining Sharpshooter Academy, he played for his hometown Surrey Minor Hockey Association. “I would describe myself as a power forward,” explained Witzel. “I can make plays and create chances, but I’m also not afraid to play physical and use my size when needed.” Witzel made his Panthers’ debut on Sept. 11 in Aldergrove, and scored his first career PJHL goal against the Ironmen on Sept. 20.
