Curling Classic wraps today in Vernon
Gim defeated Yuina Miura 5-2 to win the women’s title and secure the final Grand Slam of Curling berth, officials said.
On Sunday, Oct. 4, 15-time Korean women's champion Eunji Gim captured the title at the Prestige Hotels and Resorts Curling Classic in Vernon, securing a spot in the Grand Slam of Curling's Co-Op Invitational in Victoria.
Gim defeated Japan's Yuina Miura 5-2 in the championship match, reflecting the international dominance of the 48-team event where seven of the eight playoff rinks hailed from Japan or Korea.
Reigning B.C. women's champion Taylor Reese-Hansen of Victoria was the only Canadian rink to advance to the playoffs, finishing preliminary round play at 4-1 before losing 4-3 in the quarterfinals to Gim.
Eight men's teams compete today, Monday, Oct. 5, at the Vernon Curling Club, with winners advancing to semifinals at 12 p.m. and the championship at 3 p.m. for the final Victoria spot.
The Grand Slam of Curling's Co-Op Invitational runs Oct. 13-18 in Victoria, with Gim now confirmed in the field after her Vernon victory.
