Fuel Price Shock: South Africans Face Record Petrol Hike on Wednesday
Minister Gwede Mantashe said Brent crude rose to $101 a barrel, driving the biggest monthly fuel increase in years.
From Wednesday, South African motorists face record costs as official fuel adjustments push Petrol past the R30-per-litre threshold for the first time in history.
The Department attributed the increases to Brent Crude prices climbing from $87.89 to $101 per barrel, while continued US-Iran tensions and supply uncertainties surrounding the Strait of Hormuz drove international prices higher.
Inland Petrol will surge to R30.25, while Unleaded 93 rises to R29.88, with filling a 50-litre tank costing about R166.50 more than September 2026.
Diesel users face severe costs, with 0.05% Sulphur increasing by R2.84 per litre, while Illuminating Paraffin spikes by R3.58 and LPGas rises by 42 cents per kilogram.
The Department will publish the full price schedule for each zone on Tuesday, 6 October, enabling consumers to verify exact pump prices before filling up.
