A project company owned by the Finnish energy group Fortum has applied for government support to build new nuclear reactors right next to the existing nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn.
The Swedish government wants to build thousands of megawatts of nuclear power with state support. In addition to Fortum, four other projects have applied for support, one of which is practically state-owned.
Fortum has applied for state support through a newly formed project company to build new nuclear power reactors on Ävrö in Oskarshamn municipality. The project could have an electrical output of between 1,200 and 3,400 megawatts. The plans include options with both small modular reactors, SMRs, and large-scale reactors.
