- One option involves deploying German-operated Patriot air defence systems to HMNB Clyde in Faslane, Scotland, to protect the Royal Navy's ballistic missile submarine fleet and the UK's Trident deterrent.
- A British defence source questioned the feasibility of industrial collaboration, adding: "The ability to contribute to the defence of Faslane is more credible, likely and appropriate."
- Berlin is also holding similar discussions with France regarding its independent nuclear forces, as European governments seek to increase capabilities while remaining bound by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
