N.J. Wedding Moves to Life Time Gym After nor'easter Floods Couple's Highlands Home
Life Time staff turned a flooded gym into a wedding venue in five hours after the nor'easter forced the couple to abandon their original plans.
On Saturday, a nor'easter flooded the Highlands home of newlyweds Francisco and Grace Weisser Vasquez, forcing them to relocate their wedding to Life Time Middletown-Red Bank, where Grace works part time.
Torrential rain trapped the couple Friday when the tent company canceled delivery. "It started on Friday and the tent company said, 'We're not delivering your tent,'" Grace said Wednesday, as water surrounded their home.
Alex Armiento, general manager at Life Time Middletown-Red Bank, received a call asking to host the wedding and immediately agreed. Staff members including Chris Pica, Karen Hennessy, and Julian transformed the fitness club into a venue within hours.
Despite the storm raging outside, the couple exchanged vows in the facility's yoga studio. Grace said, "It was the most perfect wedding," allowing international family members who traveled from Canada, Australia, and Brazil to celebrate.
Heavy flooding and high winds across the Jersey Shore disrupted weekend plans for multiple couples; however, venues like Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway Township successfully accommodated displaced events, sitting 13 feet above sea level.
