NATO Draws Up 3-Step Plan to Fight Russia if Putin Attacks the Baltics
The reported plan would use drones, missiles and special forces to slow an invasion and push Russian forces back, Bild said.
According to German newspaper Bild, NATO has developed a detailed "Land Warfighting Concept" to respond to potential Russian invasions of Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania, outlining three main elements of defense.
Developed under US Army Major Andrew Pingrey, the strategy aims to stop invading forces and push them back to Russia's borders rather than to conquer territory. This defensive posture reflects NATO's stated objective.
The plan calls for suppressing Russian missile threats in Kaliningrad, while NATO would establish an "autonomous zone" along borders with Russia and Belarus using drones and unmanned vehicles against advancing forces.
To disrupt military capabilities, NATO would establish an "air bridge" transporting robotic systems into Russia to target airfields and railways, while engaging Russians opposed to President Vladimir Putin.
Military planners argue deterrence works best when Russia knows the consequences of attacking a NATO member, so publicizing these plans clarifies the alliance's strictly defensive goal and aims to prevent conflict.
Plans include stopping Russian troops with recourse to the border strip with drones and autonomous vehicles, attacks within Russian territory and contacts with opposition to Putin.
Drones instead of soldiers on the border, special forces deep in Russia and Kaliningrad as the first goal: Nato has developed a concrete battle plan for the case of a Putin attack on the Baltic – the Kremlin should know every detail of it.
