Michael Flatley Announces Death of Wife Niamh O’Brien
Michael Flatley said the 52-year-old dancer had been unwell for weeks and was due for specialist treatment in the United States.
On Monday, Riverdance star Michael Flatley announced that his wife, Niamh O'Brien, 52, died at Beacon Hospital in Dublin following a period of illness.
O'Brien, originally from Meath, was a renowned dancer who performed the lead role of Saoirse in 'Lord of the Dance' before marrying Flatley in 2006 in Fermoy, Co Cork.
During Flatley's 2023 cancer treatment, O'Brien provided critical support. Flatley described his wife's courage as "a sign from God that he had sent me an angel," highlighting her strength during his illness.
The couple shares one son, Michael St James, born in 2007. Flatley's representative expressed gratitude to Beacon Hospital staff for caring for O'Brien over the past few weeks.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. The Flatley and O'Brien families have asked for privacy as they come to terms with this loss.
