Rising interest rates are starting to hamper the mortgage market. Banks and building societies provided new mortgages worth 26.8 billion crowns in August. Compared to July, their volume was 13 percent lower. This is according to the Hypomonitor of the Czech Banking Association. The average interest rate increased by 0.1 percent month-on-month to exactly five percent. It has thus returned to the level of 2024.
